The Alberta Female Hockey League is crowning four provincial champions over the next two weeks as tournament play is set to get underway this weekend in two divisions.
The fields are set for action this weekend, March 21-24, in the U18 AAA and U15 AA divisions in the Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships presented by ATB.
AFHL U15AA
Five teams are meeting at Airdrie’s Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena for the U15 AA championship. The hosting Airdrie Lightning start the tournament on March 21 with an 11:15 am game against Calgary Fire Red. The other three teams – Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, Edmonton Pandas Black and Lloydminster Richardson Jewellery Steelers are also in action on the first day of games.
The bronze and gold medal matches will conclude the weekend on March 24 with the gold medal game at 11:45 am.
AFHL U18AAA
Red Deer is hosting the top four teams in the U18 AAA division – Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, Edmonton Jr. Oilers White, St. Albert Raiders Slash and Calgary Fire. Round robin action begins Thursday afternoon at Servus Arena with the Fire and Jr. Oilers White at 3:45 pm, followed by St. Albert and Red Deer at 6:30 pm.
The bronze and gold medal games take place on Sunday (March 24) with the Alberta champion advancing to the Pacific Regional Championship against the champions from British Columbia to determine who represents the Pacific Region at the Esso Cup in Vernon, B.C.
U18 AA and U13 AA provincial championship tournaments run March 28-31 in Okotoks and Lloydminster.
